Michael Marcavage, director of Repent America, was at a borough council meeting in Lansdowne Pennsylvania on July 21, 2013. He wanted to share his opposition to the council's agenda of attracting more homosexuals to Lansdowne. This is his religious conviction and as a citizen of the United States of America, he has every right to voice his opinion. This article has nothing to do with being for or against the homosexual life style. The article is addressing every American's constitutional freedom to express their religious beliefs in a public assembly.
It does not mean that you have to agree with him, but he does have the right to voice his opinion. That is what these meetings are for. If the citizens of the municipality disagrees with him they need to oppose him at the ballot box, that is what democracy is all about, one of our basic freedoms is to vote.
During the meeting Michael Marcavage was ordered not to read from the Bible by the president of the council because he stated that God's word is considered "hate speech". Not only was he ordered not to read but he was struck by another council member, physically removed from the room, ordered to leave the building, and then assaulted by police chief.
The next day the police chief informed him that he is being charged with "disrupting a public meeting" and "disorderly conduct." Michael Marcavage, director of Repent America, faces up to 15 months in jail and a $2,800 fine for reading from the Bible. And then resisting when his freedoms were being infringed upon.
This type of action is a threat against all American's freedom of expression and free speech, including the very ones Michael Marcavage was trying to oppose.
